Conference on Mobility, the environment and...
On Friday I caught the bus back to Curitiba. I was quite excited to be going back because the next day I was planning on going to a conference held by OAB (something like lawyers guild).
The title speaker was Jaime Lerner and it was focused on bycicles in the city and was pitched as debate and public forum. So I got up early on the Saturday and made my way to this conference.
Jaime Lerner spoke...
Foz and Sao Paulo
After going to the Argentinian side of the falls I spent the next afternoon in Paraguay which was really great. I learnt a lot in a few hours about the little country i knew nothing about.
Firstly they speak two languages-Spanish and an indian language called Guyrani. That was really interesting for me because Im just starting to understand a little bit of spanish and Im so used to being able to...

An amazing 2 weeks
So firstly I should apologise for not writing on here for so long!
The last two weeks have been pretty full! I will post photos after I’m done writing this.
So I caught a bus down to Foz do Iguacu from Curitiba on the 3rd and arrived quite early in the morning. (The trip was about 6 hours and the overnight buses are way more comfortable than most aeroplanes)
I stayed in a hostel in the...
Brazilian life
I can’t believe I have been in Curitiba for a month now! I can’t believe I’ve been travelling for almost 2 months! Wow! It certainly doesn’t seem like I’ve been gone that long! Brasil is such an interesting place. I feel everyday I see something different, learn something about its culture or hear another type of Brazilian music. In the scheme of things it seems so...

a few facts...
about Brasil that I didn’t know.
Last night a taxi driver showed me a car that looked like an abulance screaming past. He said it was for people who die in the street. In other words, if the police shoot you, if you die in a car accident or whatever these people pick you up and take you straight to the morgue. You don’t go to hospital. :l
Brasil has a program similar to the baby...

bike riding in Curitiba
So, yesterday I did a bike tour of Curitiba with a company called Kuritbike. It was such a good trip and a really good way to see the city. Yesterday was labour day here in Brazil so the streets were super quiet and the parks were full. The aim of this tour was to explore some of the green areas of Curitiba, most importantly Parque Barigui.
My tour guide was a guy who has lived in Curitiba for 5...

Lele Architecture exhibition
Good morning all!
It has been quite a while since i last wrote and you can thank my annotated bibliography for uni that is due on friday. However, last night i happened to go to an exhibition opening of a very highly respected Brazilian architect with the nickname of Lele. Naturally, I have never heard of him, but his architecture certainly fits in well with the architects that created the boom...
Ilha do mel
So,
for the past 3 days i have been staying at ilha do mel- an island off the coast of the state of Parana about1-2 hours from Curitiba.
At the very least i can only say that this island is like a beautiful hidden paradise, not discovered by the majority of tourists and during the week its pretty much just the locals.
I stayed in a beach shack (in the photos) and swam and walked and rode bikes...

Getting to know Curitiba
Today was my first full day in Curitiba. The hostel I’m staying at is about a 30 minute bus ride to the city. I chose to stay here because it is an Ecohostel and is set among something like 5 acres of forrest with a creek running through and a pool and its pretty much paradise on a students budget!
The bus ride is kind of enjoyable anyway. It gives me the oppurtunity to see where I’m...

what a city has taught me.
So, tomorrow I leave Brasilia for Curitiba. I am fnally arriving at my destination.
I am excited to arrive in Curitiba. I hope it fulfills or even exceeds my expectations and I hope it teaches me a things or two.
I know Brasilia sure has. I have enjoyed Brasilia even though I have found it so difficult to navigate being a backpacker. I think any and every architect/urban planner/engineer should...
